The above holy card has a special story behind it and
I would like to share it with you........

It is a long standing tradition in our church for Catholics to name their children after saints. Catholics believed that by doing this it would give their children a patron saint to model after and a powerful intercessor who shared their name. However, at the time of my birth my Mother had not heard of a saint named Mildred. I was named after my Grandmother (my Father's mother). She died of cancer at the young age of 29 when my Father was only 6 years old. My Mother can still remember my Father the day I was born with tears in his eyes asking her to name me Mildred. You can imagine my delight when I found the story of St. Mildred on the internet last year. After that I began to search for prayers and images of her. I was extremely disappointed to find only one small distorted image and one short prayer. Then one day while I was on Ebay I saw a holy card of her. I told God "Father, I have got to get this holy card no matter what". That same evening on the phone I mentioned my exciting find to my friend Julie. But only God and St. Mildred could know how truly important this was to me. Well, God must have told Julie because she contacted me the next day and said "I am bidding on St. Mildred for you and I am going to win it for you no matter what".

Julie's words were an ehco of my prayer to God!

Thank you, Heavenly Father!
and
Thank you, Julie!

O loving Lord, the source of all joy and goodness,

we praise you for the life and example of our patron,

St. Mildred of Thanet,

who preached the Christian faith in pagan times;

and we pray that, as the radiance of your love was seen in her faith,

her devotion, and her good works,

so we, in this unbelieving generation, may show forth practical love,

generous compassion, and joyful faith.

We ask this for your name's sake. Amen.
